A regular skincare routine is an investment in yourself
How has Anne Hathaway aged five minutes over the last 2 decades?
The answer is skin care, among other things.
Aging backward or aging like a fine wine, whatever you call it, Anne Hathaway will always be our inspiration when it comes to aging in the spotlight, without actually aging.
From playing a 15-year-old Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries to playing a 40-year-old Solene in The Idea of You, we’ve seen that she’s been taking serious care of her skin throughout the years.
And it’s come to our attention that the Oscar winner is actually “incredibly disciplined when it comes to her skin.” She’s said in one of her interviews that aging is “personal” and we shouldn’t give it the attention it desires.
“Aging is just another word for living. And what you do with it from there is personal and up to you. I feel great — I feel better than I did in my twenties because I’m taking much better care of myself.”
We love us some skincare to be used as a shield against aging. And Anne Hathaway reveals her secrets when it comes to the topic, covering skin care, nutrition, and her partnership with Japanese skincare brand Shiseido.
How Does Anne Do It?
Um…is it only us, or is it hot in here? She does not, at all, look like she’s in her 40s, be honest.
If you wanna know how she does it, read on to successfully avoid wrinkles and fine lines with Anne Hathaway’s secret to it.
Face Massage with Cleanser:
The Princess Diaries actor starts her day by messaging a gentle cleanser into her skin. She believes in face massage and has been known to be obsessed with freeze tools as a means of massaging.
Massaging, not only with freeze tools but also with a cleanser can stimulate circulation in the skin and remove impurities to detoxify and eliminate puffiness so that you’re ready for a stressful day.
Exfoliation and Hydration:
The best approach to any skincare issue, really, is combining exfoliation with hydration.
Anne Hathaway’s facialist, Su-Man, while giving skin care tips has said:
“To brighten and renew skin, use an exfoliator to remove dead skin cells, then apply toner and serum before sealing them in with a hydrating sheet mask.”
“Then, wait 15 minutes before removing the mask and applying eye cream and moisturizer,” she added. In Anne Hathaway’s routine, morning masking is one of the steps she swears by.
Oof, that was a lot of hydration, wasn’t it? But—and Korean skincare agrees—hydration is key to skin care. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells on the surface of the skin to reveal glowing skin while enabling other skincare products to absorb better into the skin—and ultimately, work their best.
Retinol and eye creams:
The next step in the Anne Hathaway skincare routine is retinol serum. Her favorite formula contains a firming, tightening, and radiance-boosting blend of products enriched with soothing, hydrating ingredients that counteract retinol’s irritating effects.
While on this step, you can use other serums as well, in order to target other problem areas. But, make sure that they can be paired with retinol.
The key to avoiding fine lines closer to the eye is using eye patches and eye creams.
Moisturize:
After using a serum, you have got to moisturize. The actor swears by using moisturizer every day because moisturizer is really the first step if you want to avoid wrinkles and fine lines.
You can use non-comedogenic moisturizers if your skin is sensitive to acne or whiteheads, but moisturizers CANNOT be skipped, and even we agree with that!
Loads of SPF:
SPF is the last step, but the most important one for every skin care regimen. Go as high as possible. And since Anne Hathaway has pale skin, she uses a firming cream with SPF 30.
Moral of the story: if you’re looking for anti-aging tips, try to integrate products with anti-aging qualities into your entire skin care regimen.
TIP: Nutrition Is Essential
Nutritionally, every decade of your life requires something different.
In her 30s Anne gave up alcohol, and in her 40s she started focusing on eating more nutritionally. She says hydration is the most important key to skin care. Hydration, primarily, can come from water.
